    Raising Children with Disabilities

    Mom and dad were raised in rural West Virginia and their formal education was limited.  They were devout Christians and raised my sister and me in a Christian home. Before I was born my mother apparently had toxoplasmosis and this affected the retinas of both eyes. I also was very near sighted and had other vision problems. My vision was poor. At the age of five my sister, Jeanne, was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. Mom and dad had two disabled children to bring up.
